With only three days left of 2007, it's time to concentrate on 2008 - and everything you're going to achieve in 2008.
- DO visualise your future plan for Italy in your mind. Where are you? What are you doing? How do you feel? The closer you get to your dream now, the more achievable your goal is.
- DON'T move without having a gameplan first? What are you going to do if things in Italy don't go to plan?
- DO learn Italian - or at least master the basics. The more you know beforehand, the easier it will be to slip into your new Italian lifestyle and make friends
- DON'T plan, plan and plan some more. Yes, planning is good but only up until a certain point. If you plan any more than five years ahead, you may already have dropped dead or someone may have nicked your brilliant business idea.
- DO adapt your plan. If you want to be a marketing manager in Sardinia, earn Eur2,500 net per month and live in a small town, something has to give. Ask yourself what is more important: living in Italy or continuing in your current job?
- DON'T ignore what others are telling you. You don't have to listen to everything everyone tells you but make sure you don't ignore valuable advice.
And if what you really want to do is learn to inject personality into your blog, website or even your expat memoirs, why not join our Absorbing Writing workshop? 4 days, 5 nights in sun-drenched Sardinia learning to to write with rapport and authenticity, while capturing the essence of a place.
