Teaching in an international school in Italy
I got sent this today:
Buono Serra,
I don't know how I landed here but I did. It's a good thing........I am a teacher in the USA. I teach learning support at the middle level. I am interested in teaching in Italy in an English School. For example, a school in which American students attend while there parents work for the government of a large USA corporation. What can you tell me about opportunities in this arena?
Thanks.
And here's my reply:-
There are dozens of international schools throughout Italy. Some are British, some are American and some are truly international. Entrance requirement vary but schools normally require teachers with at least two years' experience. They also request an EU passport, or, if you are from outside the Union, you are required to have working papers in place. A few schools will sponsor exceptional candidates.
International schools are a lot more organised than their Italian counterparts and normally recruit up to six months in advance. However, send in your CV regardless as maternity or sick cover may be required.
A non-exhaustive list of international schools can be found here:

For those of you interested in working in British schools in Italy, check out COBIS, the council of British International Schools. It also has a central database for accessing vacancies.
